Jamdani was recognized as Bangladesh’s first Geographical Indication product on 17 November 2016. On 17 August 2017, the Directorate of Patents, Designs and Trademarks announced that Hilsa, the national fish of Bangladesh, has been recognized globally as a Bangladeshi product. As a result, Hilsa was registered as the second Geographical Indication product of Bangladesh. Then slowly some of the more famous products of Bangladesh started to be included in the product list. GI Product
A GI is a special name or symbol used for an ingredient. This name or mark is determined by the geographic location or origin (such as a country, region, or city) of the specific material. Geographical recognition guarantees certain quality standards or specific production methods or specialties. For example, the geographically recognized Assam Muga Suta[1][2] mark[3] guarantees the quality standards of garments or other materials made of Muga Suta. Geographical recognition provides legal protection and the right to commercially produce different materials in a specific region.

Jamdani Saree
Jamdani is a vividly patterned, sheer cotton fabric, traditionally woven on a handloom by craftspeople and apprentices around Dhaka. Jamdani textiles combine intricacy of design with muted or vibrant colours, and the finished garments are highly breathable.
Bangladesh Hilsa
The national fish of Bangladesh is Hilsa (Ilish), and it is cooked with the spices and with the curry. The fish is found everywhere in Bangladesh. Important to realize, nearly 60% of Ilish is found in Bangladesh. This is very tasty and can be found all over the world.
Kalijira Rice
Kalijira rich contains vitamins like thiamine and niacin, which improve digestion, as well as keep the nervous system and heart healthy. Due to its rich fiber, this rice plays an important role in curing various stomach ailments including constipation. This ingredient also plays a special role in improving digestion.
Shotoronji
Shataranji is a weaving technique of the Rangpur region of Bangladesh. It has been declared a Geographical Indication Product of Bangladesh in 2021.[1][2][3] It is used to produce carpets that are fashionable, artistic, and practical, especially when used as a blanket. Due to the expense involved in its production, Shatranji was considered a symbol of aristocracy.
Fazli Mango
The ‘Fazli’ mango is a mango cultivar primarily grown in Bangladesh and Indian state of West Bengal. It is a late maturing fruit, available after other varieties. Fazlis are commonly used in jams and pickles in the cuisine of the Indian subcontinent. Each mango can be quite large, going up to a kilo. Rajshahi Division in Bangladesh is the major producers of fazli. An important commercial variety, it is increasingly being exported.
Amritsagar Kala of Narsingdi
The taste and smell of this banana of medium size and yellow color is incomparable. When nectar sea bananas ripen, the garden is filled with fragrance. Amrit Sagar Kala is considered as ‘brand of Narsingdi’. Upazila Agriculture Officer of Narsingdi Sangham Chandra Vanik told BBC Bangla, “The quality of the soil of Narsingdi gives this banana a sweet smell and sweet taste.
Khejur Gur
At one time Jessore palm molasses sugar was very famous. Later sugar production was stopped due to market profit in cane sugar. It is known that in 1861, Mr. Brown started the production of sugar by mechanized method by setting up the New House factory.
Sada Mati (The White Clay)
Sada Mati, the White Clay of Bijoypur, is more than just a mineral resource; it’s a symbol of both cultural heritage and economic potential. Located in the picturesque landscapes of Durgapur upazila within the Netrakona district of Bangladesh, this remarkable clay has recently earned the coveted status of a Geographical Indication (GI) product.
Bagda Prawn of Bangladesh
At present tiger shrimp (Bagda) is being cultivated in about 145,000 ha of coastal and tidal lands in ghers and ponds (in 25-30 thousand farms) at satkhira, Khulna, bagerhat and Cox’s Bazar (including Chakoria and Teknaf) area under both monoculture, polyculture and integrated with paddy in Khulna area and salt in Chakoria area. Prawn (Galda) culture in about 30,000 ha in about 60,000 ponds and paddy fields is being practiced mainly in Bagerhat, Khulna, jessore, patuakhali, barisal, Chittagong, lakshmipur, feni, gopalganj, madaripur, faridpur, kishoreganj, rajbari and Dhaka.
Bogura’s Doi
Ghetu Ghosh of Sherpur in Bogra district is known to be the inventor of Curd of Bogra. On the other hand, Gaur Gopal Ghosh was the inventor of creamed curd in Bogra. Sir John Anderson, President Yahya Khan, Elizabeth II, Queen Victoria and many other famous persons ate Curd of Bogra. Yahya Khan sent the food to important persons in order to influence them. It became geographical indication product on 26 June 2023.
